Knight of Wands

How it actually shows up

The Knight of Wands is momentum without a destination, and he is far more enjoyable to be around than to be. He shows up as the plan announced at midnight, the trip booked in an afternoon, the person who makes the room brighter and then is not there in March. When the card describes you, the question is not whether the energy is real — it always is — but whether anything you started this year is still standing. When it describes somebody else, be honest with yourself about what you are enjoying. The warmth is genuine. Staying is a separate skill, and this card makes no promises about it.

Common pairings

• The Chariot — the same force, with a direction — this pairing actually arrives somewhere
• Page of Wands — a spark turning into a sprint; the middle got skipped
• The Tower — moving fast into something that is already unstable
• Temperance — the correction is available: same fire, slower hand
• The Empress — heat meeting something that only grows slowly — mismatched tempos
