How it actually shows up

Six of Pentacles is generosity with the scales still in somebody’s hand. Something is being given and it genuinely helps — but the card keeps the scales in the picture, because the giving happens from a position and both people know it. That is not a condemnation; most help is like this. The question it asks depends on which side you are standing on. If you are giving: are you giving, or buying something you have not named? If you are receiving: are you accepting help, or accepting terms? The healthy version of this card is a loan with a date on it, and a friendship that survives the repayment.
