The World

How it actually shows up

The World is completion, and the thing readers notice is how quiet it is. Not triumph — the specific, slightly hollow feeling of finishing something you organised years of your life around. The degree, the build, the recovery, the raising of a child to the point where they leave. It appears alongside a question people are often ashamed of: *is that it.* The card's answer is that completion is a real thing and deserves to be marked, and that the emptiness following it is normal rather than a sign the achievement was hollow. It also, in most readings, points forward — the cycle closing is what makes the next one possible. Reversed, it usually marks something almost finished and left at ninety percent, which is a far more common ending than failure.

Common pairings

• The Fool — one cycle closing and the next already opening — the deck's cleanest sequence
• Wheel of Fortune — completion arriving with conditions you didn't control
• The Sun — a finish that is warm and can be marked
• Judgement — the assessment that lets something actually close
• Death — a completion that is also an ending, and needs to be said out loud
