Queen of Wands

How it actually shows up

The Queen of Wands is warmth that does not need approval, which is rarer than confidence. She is the woman who is genuinely interested in you and entirely unbothered by whether you approve of her — and both halves are required. In a reading she often marks a capacity you already have and have been rationing: being liked without performing, taking up the room you are actually standing in. Where she goes wrong is jealousy, specifically the kind that comes from having given a great deal of warmth while quietly keeping count. If she appears beside a card about depletion, that is usually the story.

Common pairings

• The Sun — self-possession and ease together; people will come to you this season
• The Devil — warmth being spent to hold on to someone; check what it is buying
• Strength — authority that never needs to raise its voice
• The Moon — charm covering something still unresolved underneath
• King of Wands — a partnership of equals, or a contest — rarely anything in between
